Camill's Design

Camill's Design

This gorgeous design using CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements was styled by Shiney Company’s  Camilla Frayling. You’ll see it featured in this months Beads and Beyond Magazine. With long, large necklaces at the height of fashion, this is a must for your summer wardrobe.

This catwalk style necklace is fun to make as you create and hammer your own links. You can make them any size, but we’ve gone for a big bold statement links that really catch the eye and teamed them up with pearls for an up to the minute look.

Here’s how

Step 1
Cut 7 x 20cms pieces of 1.25mm wire and bend around a rolling pin or similar object to make a large hoop with the end overlapping by approx 2cms. Trim any excess wire.

Step 2
Turn a loop towards the middle of the hoop, gripping where the wires overlap with the widest part of your round nose pliers.

Step 3
Pull the hoop apart slightly, so the small loops don’t overlap when hammering, taking care to keep the circular shape. Place the hoop on the steel block and hammer with the chasing hammer. Do not hammer the small loops.

Step 4
Using the round nose pliers, open and hook the two small loops together, taking care not to distort the shape. Lightly re-hammer the hoop so that it sits flat avoiding the small loops. Make 7 hoops.

Step 5
Cut 6 x 5cm pieces of the thicker chain. Open a large (8.8mm) jump ring with a twist motion and link it through the middle of the small loops on your hoop. Before closing, link to the end of a piece of chain.

Step 6
Thread the chain through another one of your large hoops and back to the first hoop, connecting the end with another jump ring as you did before. Repeat until all of your large hoops are connected together in this way.

Step 7
Cut 2 x 25cm lengths of the thicker charm chain and connect the ends together with a large jump ring, link each end to the last of large hoops. No clasp required.

Step 8
To create the clusters, make a wrapped loop with a headpin on all of your pearls and crystals. Connect together with jump rings to form 1 large cluster and 2 slightly smaller ones for the sides. Use the remaining finer chain to embellish the clusters.

Step 9
Open the top jump ring on each of the clusters and attach to the small loops on the inside of the large hoop, fixing the largest cluster in the centre.
